[RT] are Ramdom Thoughts. This is a tradition in the pioneered in the Cocoon community and coming into swing in many Apache projects. RTs are often long and thought-provoking mails with new project propositions, that are discussed and scrutinized at length. They may also be the start of essays on a particular design idea or programming pattern.

One distinguishing characteristic about RTs is the complete and utter lack of consistency with respect to quality: some are pure crap, others are pure genius. Even the original author of a RT is not sure which category any given posting falls into at the time it is issued. As such, an author will often prefix an e-mail subject or essay title with '[RT]' to indicate he's totally unsure whether he is being a genius or an idiot.
